By Amani Niclas (Program Manager) We are thrilled to see how God is using us to make an impact on the Tanzania education system. In 2019 we partnered with School-to-School International to provide in-service teachers’ support for 6 schools in Arusha District. The support focused on equipping teachers with skills and knowledge to teach literacy and numeracy. This was very important in these schools where literacy and numeracy, the building blocks of all other skills, was especially low. ![]() Participants in a government-hosted symposium commending Joshua as the model to followPoor literacy and numeracy performance is directly linked to early school dropout and low-level entry into further education. Recent primary level national exams confirmed many kids end their primary years without knowing how to read! Typically, they come from poor families. Joshua initiatives in these selected schools introduced a completely different framework enabling teachers to teach literacy and numeracy better. Our first training in 2019 was quickly followed by school visits where Joshua mentors were able to support teachers in their classroom. Soon they were practicing what they had learned! ![]() Ward education officers and S-2-S International rep at last week’s important meetingLast week, in a district meeting of schools, we were able to brief teachers on these and ongoing Joshua support initiatives to get maximum buy-in. We were so encouraged by testimonies shared by the district government official who convened the meeting! He talked of the impact our program had already made in significantly boosting the 6 schools’ performances. ![]() School headmasters attending the meeting. The official requested us to extend the program to other schools and districts. But as we all know these programs need financial support! The government with its very limited budget, doesn’t have the funds to do so and has never assisted Joshua financially in any of its ventures. It’s our prayer that God will provide more funds so that we can reach more schools so that every child has the opportunity to learn in a “kingdom” manner. If you would like to be part of this educational transformation in Northern Tanzania, you can help by funding one of our trainings. In 2022 we plan to conduct 12 of these, spread over six new schools requesting help. Each school receives two 2-day trainings which are followed up by two visits. All of this for just US$1,350/school! This includes our transport, accommodation and food over a total of 4 days (usually 2 days of travel and 2 full training days). Any contribution toward these costs is really appreciated!
